Psychologists and Software Developers: More in Common than You Would Think

My brother once laughed at me when I told him that I thought I would make a good counselor. *grin* I can see from your reaction you’re thinking the same thing. Well, I was sitting at my desk today, trying to get myself in the mood to do some coding when I […]

Privacy, Technology, and Your ISP

The courts have ruled that the NSA wiretapping program was illegal. This is related to a previous post I did on Privacy, as it relates to Technology and Government. I’m still greatly interested in what the ABA readership feels about the relationship of Technology, Communication, and Government. What kinds of safeguards should be in place […]

Wired 14.07: What Kind of Genius Are You?

Wired 14.07: What Kind of Genius Are You?
“A new theory suggests that creativity comes in two distinct types – quick and dramatic, or careful and quiet.” I find this especially interesting on many levels. And it occured to me that you could see this theory worked out in OS’s. Apple is an […]

Freaky Comments

Today the other developer I work with was sifting through some of our legacy code and ran across the feakiest code comment I have ever seen. It gave me chills.
//I am not a victim.
That code has been problematic since I started, and I loathe doing anything with it. But now I don’t want to touch […]

What is it with the Nerds, anyway?

Okay. So, most of my guy friends when I was at Harding were all Computer Science majors. Okay, maybe all but two…no, they were still Computer Science, they just double majored in Bible, too. Anyway…

Being in the Middle Sometimes Sucks

It’s that point on the learning curve where you’re x and y value are about the same. You know a lot about the subject, but you still have a lot to learn. And the really irritating part is you know just enough to know that what you want to accomplish is possible, and […]

Have you ever wondered why Gollum looked so good…

But Neo in The Matrix 3 mob fight scene looked so fake? It’s not because the artist who designed Neo was so much worse than the one who did Gollum. The reason why Gollum looked so lifelike and real as opposed to Neo is precisely because Gollum isn’t real. He was a fantasy creature. In […]

User Interface on the Web

I’ve been deep into the user interface hole for last few weeks. I find it really interesting that a company the size of which I work for (is that grammatically correct?) has so little in house knowledge of user interaction. We need some hardcore testing done, by actual users since my boss thinks […]
