Superman Returns
Heck yeah he did!
After five years of “retirement” Superman returns to pretty much the same world he left. Chaos ensues and blah, blah, blah, Superman!
Not much more can be said by this author without revealing major character arcs and plot lines. I will say that all CG was very well done. They did the job that should have been done in Matrix 2 and 3. Kevin Spacey made a great Lex Luthor and Parker Posey was annoying as the overly sentimental bad gal Ms. Kitty. The newbie Brandon Routh was frighteningly like Christopher Reeve in both look and action and while his hair was quite coiffed and has suit was quite action-figureish, it wasn’t as distracting as I thought it would be. The only non-believable character was Kate Bosworth’s Lois Lane. She wasn’t bad by any stretch of the means, she just wasn’t what Lois Lane is supposed to be. Now, that may very well be due to the writers than to her own performance.
I went into this movie expecting it to be cheesy and horrible. I was very surprised. However, out of caution, I encourage you to do the same and leave your expectations at home before you go to see this movie (of course this is good advice for seeing any movie). But if you must expect something, expect this:
This movie is to the Superman franchise what Batman Begins was for the Batman franchise and what Sam Rami was for Spiderman.
Take it for what it’s worth.
